If you’ve been following my last few posts you’ll know I’ve been trying to get used to my new hearing aids since Friday. Well, I’m happy to say I’m almost there. Some sounds are still different but much more tolerable. I imagine in another week I won’t even give the new sounds a second thought.
Since I’m at a point now where I can try my new gadgets that go along with my new hearing aids I thought I would share my experience with you. This gadget is really impressive. Like I mentioned in my last post I have a button on my hearing aids that when pressed once it goes into phone mode. When I answer the phone I can bring the phone to my ear and it sounds like the speaker is talking into both ears at the same time. I have only used this for personal use and will probably start using it at work next week. The gadget I am referring to is called a Phonak ComPilot (photo shown.) I can wear it around my neck like a necklace and it can be tucked under my shirt. When I talk to someone on the phone it works the same way as if I were to press the button on my hearing aid but…I can do hands-free. I can hear the speaker in both ears and the unit around my neck will transmit my voice back to the receiver. The phone can be up to 30 feet away from me and I can still be hands-free. I don’t know how the technology works but this is awesome! The only downside I can see at this point is that now I have no excuse to not get anything done around the house while on the phone. I will have use of both hands while talking for hours. Multitasking at its best :-)
